Having grown up living on the Central Plains of America, I almost congenitally like the openness and the variability-embedded-within-the-larger-continuity of vast, open fields.

Subsequently, having spent a lot of time in Michigan, I learned to enjoy looking through the stands of trees. They strike me as similar to looking through stands of wheat while lying on the ground. You know, tall plants with a central tendency from which other extensions branch out, like new thoughts.

I think these pieces derive from that deeply embedded felt sense of appreciation of some primordial relationship I have to stems and leaves and the spaces between.
